Lonnie Gasperini a soulful jazz organist from the state of Rhode Island has recently moved to New York City where he continues to take his passion for organ jazz to another level.
Part of his history includes opening for or performing with Artists such as Lou Rawls Hal Crook, Joe Lovano, Joe Lee Wilson, Percy Sledge, Dr. Lonnie Smith, George Benson, Melvin Sparks, Al Street, Ron Alif, Jimmy McGriff, Jack McDuff, Seleno Clarke, Nate Lucas, Rueben Wilson, Eddie Landsberg, Don Williams, Wyton Marsalis, Diane Reeves, Max Lucas, Herbie King, Harold Jones, John Badessa,Tootsie Bean, Patience Higgins, Jerry Weldon, Rick Britto, Greg Abate,Jim Rotondi, Peter Bernstein, Jim Robittaile,Wyton Marsalis, Chris Botti, Thurman Barker, Joe Farnsworth, Fukushi Tainaka, John Chiodini, Randy Caldwell, Billy Osborne, Lavern Sims, Semenya McCord, Juanita Dixon, Renuad Penant, Taro Kamura, Masami Ishikawa, Pete Calo, Nat Harris, Joe Friedman, John Weber, Joe Ferguson, Pete Farmer, Jesse Jones, Bill Thompson, Arnie Cheatham, Art Hazard, Willie Love, Bill Lowe, Danny Draher, and many others.
Lonnie's earlier history includes touring with the group "Cannabis" in the late 60"s and is featured on the recently re-issued CD "A Joint Effort." which includes his "Only Rock in Stock" original. He also grooves on the late Jeff Terra recording, "Groovin In The Galaxy" on Atonement Records which features Lonnie's "Grooves Blues."His own 1997 release "Turn Up The Gas" on his Keyclick Record label is available at www.cdbaby.com/gasperini Among his latest recordings as a sideman includes playing with New York's guitarist Masami Ishikawa along with drummer Fukushi Tainaka in an Organ Trio setting which has Lonnie's tribute to Fukushi, "Blues for Fukushi". Some recent recordings with The Scott Gordley Trio ("Off the Cuff") He is also featured on a new CD (Saturday Night, Sunday Morning which was released in July 2006 by drummer Mark Texiera. Lonnie's original Funk tune, Witch Doctor is on Dr. Lonnie Smith's CD (Jungle Soul) Palmetto Records and was released at The Jazz Standard (NYC) in July 2006.
Lonnie is on Thurman Barker's newest CD "Rediscovered".
Thurman is a professor of Jazz at Bard College and played and recorded with Cecil Taylor and Sam Rivers to name a few. Lonnie was chosen for this project which includes sax man Sam Morrison who played with Miles Davis. This CD shows a different side of Lonnie...more outside, avant garde. Captivating...great listening!!!

Recent performances in NY include "Knitting Factory," The Garage, Smoke, Lenox Lounge, Showmans, Robin's Nest, The Bluenote, Sugarbar, Cleopatra's Needle , and BethelWoods Jazz Festival.
As the founder of "Jazz Artists Workshops Sessions" (JAWS Inc.), a non-profit corporation, Lonnie hosts workshops throughout the New England area. Children participants have ranged in age form 5 to 18. "JAWS Inc." provides a stage for children to work side by side with professional musicians during live performances in an instructional setting.
Lonnie Gasperini continues the great organ tradition of Jimmy Smith, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Jimmy McGriff, Charles Earland, Groove Holmes, and Larry Young. His music is an exciting blend of American roots and what's happening now. ♪ ♫ ♪
